Avid visitors to the PSNH Osprey Cam are celebrating the return of our Ayers Island osprey pair. After a few days of sporadic sightings of a single bird, we are now seeing both birds consistently tending to the nest. Fortunately they survived their "harsh winter" in Central America and seem ready to raise another family in the Granite State. The migration to and from Central America was undoubtedly their biggest and most dangerous challenge, although predation and hunting continue to be a threat down south. We can expect the birds to be busy building their nest before finally settling down to raise the next generation of osprey.
This marks the fifth year we’ll be watching the Ayer’s Island Osprey soar through the sky and raise another family. The first Osprey chicks were born at Ayer’s Island in 2005. Since then the same pair have successfully raised nine offspring. We are looking forward to seeing what adventures these birds will experience in 2009. You are invited to stop in often to watch the birds as they settle in for another summer and prepare their nest for another family.
