Here Comes the Sun
In the Northeast, placing your home on the lot so that most living spaces are on the south side of the house, with service spaces, such as bathrooms, the garage, storage areas and halls on the north side can save significantly on heating bills because the home can take advantage of solar gain. You'll get even more solar gain by moving windows to the south side of the home. If your house is built on a concrete slab, all that sun entering the house can heat the slab and the retained heat can be released slowly throughout the day and into the evening.
