Sunstainable Forestry Practices

One of the fundamental aims of the Northern Wood Power Project is to meet the energy needs of PSNH customers while safeguarding New Hampshire’s precious environment.

Balancing an increasing demand for affordable, reliable power with responsible environmental practices is a challenge, and one to which PSNH is firmly committed. The Northern Wood Power Project is one example of our long history of enhancing the quality of life in our state.

PSNH is committed to helping foster responsible forestry practices throughout New Hampshire. Working with the state’s premier forest industry organization, the New Hampshire Timberland Owners Association (NHTOA), PSNH has agreed to wood procurement standards designed to benefit both our economy and our environment.

These standards include:

• Purchasing an increasing percentage of wood from New Hampshire landowners and loggers.
• Entering into long-term contracts with wood suppliers to provide market stability for the forest industry.
• Tracking of wood purchases from well-managed forests.
• Providing the public with regular summaries of wood procurement practices.

By working with the NHTOA and others in New Hampshire’s conservation community, PSNH is helping ensure that New Hampshire’s unique natural environment will be protected, nurtured and enjoyed for generations to come.
