  • More than 84 percent of New Hampshire, or 4.7 million acres, is forested
  • Of this forested region, 93 percent (4.5 million acres) is classified as timberland by the USDA Forest Service
  • Of all the states in the nation, only Maine has a higher percentage of forested land than New Hampshire
  • Private landowners own 80 percent of the state's forests
  • The average size of a woodlot in New Hampshire is less than 40 acres
  • Low-grade wood accounts for more than 50 percent of the standing timber volume and the timber harvested in the state
  • Local forests provide approximately 400,000 tons of clean, low-grade wood each year to power PSNH's Northern Wood Power at Schiller Station
