Debra Tobin’s determined to fight cancer, even if it takes all night.
For six years, PSNH senior sourcing consultant Debra Tobin battled breast cancer—and then she beat it! Little wonder that she thinks nothing of walking all night with her PSNH Energizers teammates in the American Cancer Society’s annual Relay for Life. “One of the positives that came out of my successful battle with cancer is that I have a new appreciation for life and try to live it to the fullest,” says Debra. “I’m also dedicated to helping others who are going through breast cancer.” That dedication is also evident while on the job, working in the Purchasing Department to procure distribution substation services and materials for not just PSNH but the entire Northeast Utilities group of companies. By day, Debra obtains and evaluates bids, negotiates contracts, sources new vendors, and works closely with engineering and system project departments. By night, you might find Debra spending time with family and friends—or, in June, out on the track with the Energizers, walking from 7 p.m. into the next day to raise funds for cancer research. Appropriate that each Relay for Life event begins with a Survivors Lap of celebration. That’s where you’ll find Debra Tobin, determined to have plenty more survivors join her in the years to come.
