John M. MacDonald,
PSNH Vice-President - Operations

John M. MacDonald is Vice President - Operations for Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH), a subsidiary of the Northeast Utilities System (NU).

MacDonald is responsible for the oversight of the company's Customer Operations Division, serving customers from 15 Area Work Centers and providing electric power in 198 communities; the Energy Delivery Division, providing engineering, maintenance and capital improvements of the electric system; and the Generation Division, comprised of three steam generation stations and nine hydroelectric stations.

A native of Old Lyme, Connecticut, MacDonald is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, with a degree in mechanical engineering. He holds a master of business administration degree from the University of New Haven and is a recent graduate of Penn State's Executive Management Program.

MacDonald joined NU in 1981 as an engineer, after serving as an officer in the U. S. Navy Reserves and in the U. S. Merchant Marines, achieving the rank of chief engineer. Since that time, he has held various positions at NU in the areas of engineering, planning, maintenance and hydroelectric power. In 1995, he assumed the role of director of Fossil-Hydro with overall responsibility for PSNH's generating facilities. In this position he led the division to higher levels of environmental compliance programs as well as fuel diversification programs. He assumed his present position on May 1, 2001.

MacDonald is a member of the board of directors of the New Hampshire Grocers Association and Special Olympics New Hampshire, of which he is an active "Winter Games" supporter. He has been an Easter Seal VIP since 1995 and was PSNH’s United Way chairman in 1998. He currently is serving his second term on the New Hampshire Air Resources Council, and is a graduate of Leadership New Hampshire, class of 2003.
