Gary A. Long

President & Chief Operating Officer

Gary A. Long is President and Chief Operating Officer for Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH), a subsidiary of the Northeast Utilities System (NU).

A native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Long holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from New Mexico State University and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University.

Long joined PSNH in 1976 as an assistant engineer, after serving as an officer in the United States Air Force. Since that time, he has held various positions at PSNH in the areas of marketing, customer service, regulatory affairs, governmental relations, economic development, and rates. Mr. Long was PSNH's principal representative in the development and implementation of electric utility restructuring in New Hampshire following the passage of the State's electric utility restructuring law in 1996 and various revisions thereafter.

He has been actively involved in working with the company's commercial, industrial, and wholesale customers and has testified numerous times before the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, the State Legislature and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

In February 2000, Long assumed the position of Senior Vice President responsible for marketing, corporate communications, customer services, governmental affairs and economic development. He assumed his present position on July 1, 2000. In May, 2006, he was named "2006 Business Leader of the Year" by Business NH Magazine.

Long is a member of the Advisory Council of Junior Achievement of New Hampshire, a board member of Amoskeag Industries, Inc., the New Hampshire Business Committee for the Arts, the Business and Industry Association, The New Hampshire Forum on Higher Education, the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce and the Manchester Development Corporation. He is a graduate of Leadership Greater Manchester and Leadership New Hampshire. He has been an Easter Seal VIP since 1993. He was PSNH's United Way Chairman and Northeast Utilities 1996 United Way Chairman. He is a past board member of the Manchester East Catholic Regional School System. For over 15 years, Long had coached youth soccer in various leagues in Manchester.

 


John M. MacDonald

Vice President, Generation

John M. MacDonald is Vice President, Generation for Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH), a subsidiary of the Northeast Utilities System (NU).

MacDonald is responsible for the Generation Division, comprised of three steam generation stations and nine hydroelectric stations.

A native of Old Lyme, Connecticut, MacDonald is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, New York, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of New Haven and is a graduate of Penn State's Executive Management Program and Leadership New Hampshire class of 2003.

MacDonald joined NU in 1981 as an engineer, after serving as an officer in the U. S. Naval Reserves and in the U. S. Merchant Marines, achieving the rank of chief engineer. Since that time, he has held various positions at NU in the areas of engineering, planning, maintenance and hydroelectric power. In 1995, he assumed the role of director of Generation with overall responsibility for PSNH's power plant facilities. In this position he led the division to higher levels of environmental compliance programs, such as the first U.S. application of Selective Catalytic Reduction technology, as well as multi-fuel diversification programs. He was elected Vice President at PSNH on May 1, 2001. MacDonald was instrumental in the reorganization of the Customer Operations Division and Energy Delivery Division and initiated a Performance Metrics and Analysis Group. He expanded and improved the PSNH distribution line network and upgraded substations to effect a Reliability Enhancement Program. In Generation he was a strong advocate of interconnection of renewable power resources and in this, led PSNH Generation efforts to make an award-winning project via the conversion of a coal plant into a cost-effective biomass wood burning plant that is considered a Class 1 renewable carbon neutral plant.

MacDonald is a member of the Association of Edison Illuminating Companies (AEIC) and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). In the past, he served three terms on the New Hampshire Air Resources Council and had been appointed to the Gulf of Maine Council as a Private Sector representative. MacDonald is a past Chair of the board of directors of Special Olympics New Hampshire. He is an active supporter of the American Lung Association, the Easter Seal’s VIP program since 1995 and the United Way for the past 25 years.

 


Paul E. Ramsey

Vice President, Energy Delivery

Paul E. Ramsey is Vice President, Energy Delivery for Public Service Company of New Hampshire (PSNH), a subsidiary of the Northeast Utilities System (NU).

Ramsey is responsible for oversight of planning, engineering, construction and maintenance of the company’s electrical distribution system, which stretches more than 14,000 miles.

A native of Berlin, New Hampshire, Ramsey graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and also earned a Master of Business Administration from Southern New Hampshire University.

Ramsey joined PSNH in 1975 and held various staff and management positions in accounting and budgeting. In 1984, he became assistant comptroller until his promotion to comptroller in 1991. Most recently, Ramsey led the PSNH Customer Service operations as a vice president, and was responsible for a number of PSNH's departments, including: Marketing, Economic Development, Conservation and Load Management, Facilities, Security, and Meter Reading functional areas.

In 2006, Ramsey took on a leadership role in the company-wide Customer Services Integration project for NU. The project included the implementation of a new customer information system for NU’s 2.1 million customers.

Ramsey is currently vice chair of the board of directors of the Granite State Credit Union, treasurer of Neighbor Helping Neighbor, and a member of the board of directors of the New Hampshire Institute of Art and the New Hampshire Lodging & Restaurant Association. He is a graduate of Leadership Greater Manchester and Leadership New Hampshire. He is also a VIP volunteer for Easter Seals New Hampshire and serves on the New Hampshire 2-1-1 advisory council.
