Merrimack Station is PSNH's prime base load plant, operating continuously to
meet the state's significant electrical demand.
Initiatives at Merrimack Station have broken new ground in environmental technology,
earning us numerous awards-including the Governor's Award for Pollution Prevention
in 1996, and the EPA's Environmental Merit Award in 1996 and again in 1999.
The installation of a Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) system on Merrimack
Station's Unit One boiler in 1999 caused nitrogen-oxide (NOx) emissions to be
reduced by 90 percent-a reduction equivalent to removing 700,000 automobiles
from the road. Today, Merrimack Station is one of the cleanest coal-fired plants
in the Northeast.
